Talking about painful events does not necessarily bring people closer together. Quite often, it is the opposite.
Family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, or work colleagues often distance themselves, turn away. They either get tired of the person being stuck in their grief or pain. Or they simply dislike that the person is airing their "dirty laundry" in public.
This is one of the reasons why those who have experienced trauma shut themselves off, and their stories turn into rehearsed phrases, edited in such a way as to definitely avoid rejection.
It is extremely difficult to find a place where one can express (say, write, read, cry out, dance out, remain silent, hug, etc.) pain.
This is why support groups are needed.
